A Special Delivery!!

This week we had a very special delivery. It started with a PA announcement that asked for Kindy kids from Rooms 4 & 5 to come to the office as a parcel had been delivered! We also heard a few giggling voices.... we were so intrigued as to what it could have been!

The box arrived and it was cold. There was a stamp on it saying Santa's Workshop.

We opened the box and we found some snow, a book, a letter and an elf!

After reading the book we realised the elf had been sent to us by Santa to keep an eye on whether we are making good or bad choices. The elf then uses her magic to fly back to the North Pole each night to let Santa know how our behaviour has been that day.

The number one rule that we must follow with our elf is not to touch her. If we touch her she will lose her magic! Should her magic stay each morning we arrive she will appear in a new place in the classroom. We are all excited to see where she turns up next!!!

It was important to name our elf to ensure that her magic started.
Group 1 decided her name would be Rosie.
Group 2 decided her name would be Diamond.

I can't wait to see what she does next!

Neon Disco

On Friday we went to the Neon Disco, organised and run by the amazing school P & C. They did a fantastic job and we all had  terrific time!
The kids enjoyed dancing and getting their groove on with their buddies. They particularly liked their glow products.

Kindy Assembly

A huge thank you to all of the parents for dressing your children in costume and coming to the assembly. It was so lovely to see all of the children so confident, ready for Pre-primary.
(Apologies for the crazy teachers in the forefront of the videos)

If any parents would like a video of their child speaking, I may have it. Just let me know.
Sorry about the quality. They needed to be small to upload to the website.

Rosie's Walk Hook

This term our Talk for Writing text is Rosie's Walk by Pat Hutchins. One of our class focuses will be understanding and using positional language.
We had a special delivery this week from Rosie the Hen. She sent us an envelope that directed us to follow her clues to find a treasure! She sent us across the pavement, around the hill, through the tunnel, up the log steps and down the slide. When we returned to the classroom there was a treasure chest filled with chocolate coins and pictures from the story. It was a very exciting morning!

We have had so much fun already this year and it has been really eventful, this term will be just as busy with lots of amazing opportunities for learning and discovery. Our event calendar for the next few months is looking pretty busy so it would be advisable to mark the following dates on your calendar.

18th November - Kindy performing at the whole school assembly.

25th November & 2nd December - Kindy Student Orientation

(Group 1 will be invited to come along and enjoy some of the day)

14th December - School reports sent home

15th December – Group 1 – class party (long table lunch)

17th December – Group 2 – class party (long table lunch)

Notes to remember:

- The weather will soon be getting warmer. Please remember to put sunscreen on your child before they come to school, and pack an easy to use sunscreen which they will be able to apply themselves during the day.

- Pack a spare change of clothes in case your child gets wet from water play at school.

-       Your child needs a hat EVERYDAY. If they forget their hat they are limited to playing in the sandpit as we do not allow them to play in the sun.
-       If you planning on going on holiday before the last day of school please ensure you have told your class teacher with plenty of notice. This also needs to be approved in writing through the principal; Matt Jarman.
-       Reminder that Library day is Wednesday (Every Fortnight).

-       New parent rosters are up should you wish to volunteer your time.

This term:

This term our theme is Water, we are hoping for some lovely weather so we can get outside in the water play.

In Literacy our Talk for Writing text is Rosie's Walk. We will explore this in detail whilst participating in lots of great activities. We have spent the last few weeks focusing on learning                 S A T P I N M D letters, and using these to blend and segment simple CVC words.

In Numeracy we are revising taught concepts from the year, as well as focusing on solving simple number stories using concrete objects.

We hope you have an enjoyable term!

Elmo

This week we were lucky enough to have access to the schools Elmo device. This device is an electronic magnifying glass that allows us to zoom in on objects and project the image onto the TV.
We used Elmo to look at insect features and practised orally labelling the parts we could see. We explored spiders, ants, ladybirds, moths, centipedes and beetles.
The images were very interesting and showed us things that we cannot normally see with our own eyes.

WA Museum and Hyde Park

Museum and Hyde Park Excursion

Last week the Yanchep Beach Kindy classes left school for the whole day and travelled into Perth on a long bus ride to visit the WA museum and Hyde Park. To continue our learning on insects and mini beasts we explored the museum and were able to find bugs from all over Western Australia! We found beetles, butterflies, spiders, stick insects, spiders and many more bugs. The museum workers even brought out a live leaf insect! We learned that leaf insects are camouflaged to take on the appearance of leaves so that the birds do not find them and eat them.

We then explored the rest of the museum and discovered dinosaur bones from local dinosaurs. We also saw diamonds and glowing rocks. In the mammal room the Kindy children had to listen to descriptive clues to try and find the correct mammals.

After wandering around the museum we jumped back on the bus and went and had lunch and a play at Hyde Park. We had a marvellous day and were fortunate to have gorgeous weather both days!
